Iranian filmfest Zurich to honor Dariush Mehrjouee

The Iranian Film Festival of Zurich in Switzerland is to pay tribute to Iranian director Dariush Mehrjouee.

The Iranian Film Festival of Zurich (IFFZ) in Switzerland has been scheduled to pay tribute to the veteran Iranian filmmaker Dariush Mehrjouee.

Paying tribute to the pioneer of Iran’s New Wave cinema, the IFFZ will review his 1969 drama ‘The Cow’ on the opening day.

‘The Cow’ tells the story of a village man who has invested all joy and happiness in his cow.

When the cow is mysteriously killed, the man will not come to terms with the loss and stays with the dead animal in the stable.

The man will not be disillusioned to the extent that he metamorphosizes into his cow.

The late Ezzatollah Entezami, Ali Nasiriyan, and Mahmoud Dolatabadi are among the cast members of Mehrjouee’s 1969 masterpiece.

In 1971, the movie was screened at the Venice International Film Festival in Italy and gained the FIPRECI award of the event.

The IFFZ is “a platform for presenting the Iranian culture and tradition and for building a bridge between different cultures by the means of the universal language of art – and especially the 7th art, cinema”, the website of the event reads.

The 8th edition of the IFFZ will kick off on May 26 and run until June 1.

This edition of the IFFZ is also scheduled to screen ‘Water, Wind, Dust, Bread’ by Mehdi Zamanpour-Kiasari, ‘World Northern Hemisphere’ by Hossein Tehrani, ‘Without Everything’ by Mohsen Qaraee, ‘Bone Marrow’ by Hamid-Reza Qorbani, ‘Ti Ti’ by Ida Panahandeh, ‘No Choice’ by Reza Dormishian, and ‘Yadoo’ by Mehdi Jafari.
